FAQs

What is lomi lomi massage?

The word "lomi" means to rub or massage in the Samoan and Hawaiian languages.  Lomilomi massage features long, flowy strokes and deep release to the muscles and nervous system. All massage therapists at Malama Pono Massage are specially trained in lomilomi in the tradition of Big Island legend Auntie Margaret.

Do you offer deep tissue massage? Does it cost extra?

Yes we specialize in deeper massage work!  We offer a set price no matter the pressure requested (light / medium / firm) and we begin each session with a chat to address your needs and concerns. All of our therapists are strong, skilled and intuitive.

Where should I park?

There is a free public county parking lot with 150 spaces adjacent to our location at 75-5668 Kuakini Hwy. We recommend allowing up to 20 minutes to find parking, as this county lot can be in heavy use. Additionally, the loading zones on and around Ali'i Dr. and Likana Ln become free parking at 3 p.m.

We have a group of people - can we all get massages?

There's nothing better than experiencing the divine relaxation of massage in Hawaii together!  We offer a couples therapy room suitable for up to 2 friends, family or partners, plus an additional private therapy room, so we can accommodate up to 3 clients at a time. With so many quaint and picturesque local attractions nearby, it's ideal to book back-to-back appointments for your group.

What can the other members of my party do while I'm getting a massage?

As we are located in the historic section of Kona town, you'll find us near the Hulihe'e Palace, the Kailua Pier and King Kamehameha's summer playground, the historic Kona Inn with its boardwalk, ample shops featuring locally made artisan goods, Fat Tire ebike rental, Tattoo shops, restaurants, and the Kona Village Farmers Market (Wed-Sun with local produce and handicrafts). Just in front of our shop you'll find Da Tarot Hut for excellent, intuitive readings. The free, hop-on, hop-off Kona Trolley is an easy option to visit other areas of Kona such as Magic Sands (La'aloa) Beach or slightly further local shopping options.

For allergies and chemical sensitivities, what accommodations do you make?

We use all natural cleaning agents, organic coconut oils and massage creams. Please mention any sensitivities to your therapist.
